Wearable Electronics for First Responders
Med-Eng has been researching and embedding wearable electronic systems in first responder apparel products for over 3 decades. This has been accomplished in the context of a bomb disposal suit and helmet. The features and complexity of these wearable products have been escalating at an exponential rate. This experience has provided extensive knowledge of the many issues associated with designing and adapting electronic systems to work reliably and ergonomically in wearable applications under very harsh conditions.
The presentation will cover some of Med-Eng’s legacy with wearable electronic systems and the state-of-the-art today. First responder requirements for wearable technology can be one of the most extensive sets of requirements among wearable applications, so it could be of interest to many suppliers. This talk will cover some of the wearable technology features that may be useful to first responders today.
There are a significant number of gaps in technology that Med-Eng has encountered or opportunities that are not being adequately addressed. The presentation will describe a few of the third party solutions that exist today and also touch on gaps where there are requirements with no good solutions. Various wearable technology challenges that suppliers are struggling with will be discussed.
