Irene Sterian is the Executive Director and architect of a $19M Business-led Network of Centres of Excellence (BL-NCE) for renewable energy, new materials and optics & photonics.
Driven by her passion for innovation, Irene is a master collaborator. Together with dozens of start-ups, SMEs, large organizations, and leading research institutions from across Canada, she has formed an integrated shared ecosystem dedicated to accelerating the commercialization of electronics products manufactured in Canada for the global market.
Over her 30-year career with IBM and Celestica, Irene has proven her technology leadership in innovation management, product enablement, and global technology transfer, transforming industry standards to solve today’s business challenges.
She enthusiastically collaborates with business leaders, industry associations, and research institutions from around the world to develop technology roadmaps and tangible electronics product solutions. Irene has contributed to the Surface Mount Technology Association (SMTA) by serving on its board of directors for six years. She has attended the Exponential Manufacturing Summit in 2016, hosted by Singularity University, and is currently hosting the Canadian Global Impact Challenge , together with Deloitte and Venture LAB.
She is also a recipient of the IBM Technology Award and the Celestica Leadership Award. Irene holds a patent in high-density package design, and has published over 30 papers and articles for industry publications on electronics assembly and emerging technology.
